How can you tell if you are in a toxic relationship

When you first meet a new partner, you are usually in the honeymoon stage. After some time the conditions in your relationship have changed. Even though loving your partner might not be an issue, you are wondering if your relationship is toxic or abnormal. If you recognize the following symptoms in your relationship, you must take action to fix it or end it. You are in a toxic relationship when you experience the following circumstances:
  • Belittling- Your partner puts you down (verbally) in front of others. Whatever you do is not good enough for them.
  • Lies or misinformation- Your mate’s statements don’t match her actions. While your partner says she loves you, her actions imply another meaning.
  • Control- Your partner has become a bully and is controlling – reading your mail or “showing up” at places you are, or tracking every move you make.
  • Dependency- Your partner tries to make you dependent on them. As a result, you end up changing things about yourself to please them. You might even become their personal slave.
  • Physical abuse- When contradicting or just doing something your partner disapproves, she strikes or hurts you by any possible physical means.

It takes both persons to maintain a healthy relationship. In a toxic relationship, one is controlling the other. You have the power to change that, but you must take the power into your own hands.
